Representatives of the High Commission of Ghana in Ottawa participated in the McGill Africa Umoja Summit, held in Montreal on Thursday, March 27, 2025. The Summit, a flagship event celebrating African unity, innovation, and leadership, brought together diplomats, scholars, entrepreneurs, and students to discuss Africa’s development trajectory and global engagement.
This year’s Summit, held under the theme, “Empowering Changemakers: Innovations in Food Security, Health and Governance” featured panel discussions on key issues such as sustainable agriculture, economic growth, governance, youth empowerment, and technological innovation in Africa.
During the Summit, Acting Head of Mission, Mr. Simon Atieku, emphasised on Africa’s immense agricultural potential, highlighting the continent’s fertile land, abundant natural resources, and favorable climate as key strengths for food production. However, despite these advantages, he acknowledged the persistent challenge of food insecurity across Africa and underscored the need for greater investment in modern farming techniques and value addition. He encouraged participants in the diaspora, to play an active role in fostering agricultural innovation and investment to contribute to Africa’s food security and economic growth.
In addition to his participation in the panel discussions, the Acting Head of Mission had the opportunity to engage with some executives and Ghanaian students at McGill University, where he formally informed them of the establishment of a student desk at the High Commission. He further assured them that the High Commission stands ready to extend its unwavering support and assistance to address their concerns and foster greater collaboration between the students and the mission.
The High Commission remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering partnerships that drive economic growth and entrepreneurship.
