The High Commission of Ghana in Ottawa joined the Ghanaian community in Winnipeg and Ottawa on 8th and 15th March 2025 to commemorate Ghana's 68th Independence Day anniversary.
This year’s event, held under the theme ‘Reflect, Review and Reset,’ brought together Ghanaians, friends of Ghana, and dignitaries to honor the country’s rich history, achievements, and aspirations for the future and reflect on its progress since gaining independence from British colonial rule in 1957.

In his address, the acting High Commissioner, Mr. Simon Atieku drew inspiration from the message delivered by the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, underscoring the significance of national unity, self-reliance, and innovation as fundamental pillars for the country’s continued progress and development.
Both events served as an opportunity to reinforce the strong bonds between Ghana and Canada, while fostering unity among Ghanaians in the diaspora. Members of the Ghanaian community expressed their pride in their heritage and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ghana’s development agenda.
The High Commission extends its gratitude to all who participated in the celebrations and looks forward to continued collaboration with the Ghanaian community in Canada.
Long live Ghana!!
