The Desautels African Business Initiative (DABI) at McGill University, successfully hosted its flagship conference, “Innovating Africa: Sustainable Futures Through AI and Business,” bringing together students, academics, and policymakers for a timely conversation on Africa’s digital and economic transformation.
H.E Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, the High Commissioner of Ghana to Canada was the keynote speaker and delivered a compelling address on the role of innovation, entrepreneurship, and strategic partnerships in shaping Africa’s sustainable future. The High Commissioner highlighted Ghana’s growing leadership in digital transformation and emphasized the importance of leveraging artificial intelligence to drive inclusive growth, enhance productivity, and strengthen key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and education.
The High Commissioner stressed the importance of investing in human capital to ensure that Africa’s youthful population is equipped with the skills required to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy. She also called for deeper collaboration between African institutions and global partners, including Canadian universities and businesses, to support research, knowledge exchange, and innovation-driven development.
The event featured engaging panel discussions and interactive sessions that explored practical applications of AI in business, the role of agriculture in driving sustainable development, and the opportunities and challenges facing African markets in the digital age. Speakers shared insights on how technology can be harnessed to address pressing issues while creating new pathways for economic growth and competitiveness.
The conference reaffirmed DABI’s commitment to fostering dialogue, promoting African excellence, and building bridges between Africa and the global business community. Participants left with renewed perspectives on the transformative potential of AI and the critical role of collaboration in advancing sustainable development across the continent.
