Ottawa — 10 March 2026
The High Commission of Ghana in Ottawa had the pleasure of hosting a group of students from Carleton University who are currently undertaking a course on Africa’s International Relations.
During the visit, H.E Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, High Commissioner of Ghana to Canada provided an overview of Ghana’s foreign policy priorities, the role of the High Commission in strengthening Ghana–Canada relations, a brief refection on Ghana’s history and 69th Independence Day celebration, and Ghana’s contributions to regional peace and diplomacy in West Africa.
A major portion of the discussion focused on Ghana’s strategic role in Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its contributions to regional crisis-management and diplomatic interventions. The session was led by Dr. Fiifi Edu-Afful, Senior Researcher at United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research in Geneva, who provided valuable insights into ECOWAS’ conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts, as well as Ghana’s diplomatic contributions to promoting stability and cooperation in the region.
The interactive session offered students an opportunity to engage directly with the High Commissioner and Ministers present and gain practical insights into Africa’s international relations and diplomatic practice.
The High Commission expressed the Mission’s readiness to continue engaging with universities and students in Canada for educational diplomacy.
